Mitchell Residence

The design for the Mitchell Residence is inspired by the feeling of finding yourself in a warm field at golden hour. Glowing sunlight and long shadows dapple through the tops of trees, creating texture and movement. This feeling mirrors the purpose of the home for the clients; a place to find stillness after a lifetime of journeying together.

The space will be filled with warm wood, tactile brick, and touches of greens to emulate the quiet energy of nature. Horizontal lines will be used to create balance with the verticality of the central space, while lower ceiling heights are used elsewhere to create opportunities to reflect inward. A two storey atrium featured in the central living space allows light to flood in, and brings a direct connection to nature to the downtown Vancouver loft.

This is home; built with years of collecting, travelling, coming together, and finding peace.
